With the release of their 5th cd, the Finnish metal group Entwine takes a step forward in carving their own sound. On their latest record, "Fatal Design", the group has oriented towards more American-flavoured rock & metal sound. Songs on "Fatal Design" are pretty solid, though there's nothing ground-breaking about this record. There are a lot of borrowed sections on the songs, which makes the listener wonder where she/he had heard those before. Perhaps the biggest stumbling stone of this record is the overly steady quality of songs and their similar sonic characteristic, since it makes the listening experience somewhat grey. Production on "Fatal Design" has been handled skilfully as the sounds are fairly balanced, and the mastering has been done with taste. This might actually be the best Entwine record released thus far. "Fatal Design" should appeal to the fans of the group as well as some listeners of metal who prefer popular "easy listening" music.
